HDTV: Tips and Choices for the Superbowl!

HDTVI think that one of the happiest day of my husband’s life was the day that our old TV finally kicked the bucket, and he was able to purchase a new HDTV. Or perhaps it was the day that he first watched an NFL game in high definition. Do yourself a favor, get yourselves a new HDTV in January. The price of televisions drops after Christmas, and then you can watch the playoffs and the Superbowl in HD this year!

Right now Best Buy has 10% off most HDTV’s. Fry’s has a beautiful 52″ Sony Bravia HDTV on sale this week. If you are looking for a good online deal on HDTV’s check out TigerDirect’s deals. Amazon also has a great selection of HDTV’s, and if you are not sure what model to get, we have put a list together for you.

We have a 32″ Sharp Aquos and 42″ Sony Bravia in our home, and are very happy with both. After looking at the HDTV’s out there, personally, I find Sony and Samsung to have the best quality TV’s, but they can be pricey and if your on a budget there is a nicely priced 32″ Vizio at Sam’s Club for little over 500 dollars. Although I am not sure about buying an off-brand television, that is a great price and worth a little bit of research. Here is the link to the Vizio.

Tips to remember:

  • Look to the future when purchasing a TV, make sure it will have all the requirements you will need for at least 3 to 8 years from now.
  • Make sure you get a TV with at least 2 HDMI inputs, the more the merrier when it comes to HDMI ports!
  • Looks are important too. You want to be happy with the large contraption in your living room. ( Remember the huge rear projection?)
  • Performance is key… DO YOUR RESEARCH! Don’t just get caught up in the store with an aggressive sales reps trying to make a quick commission. Make sure before you walk into a store you know what your looking for. Stick to your guns and to your budget!
  • A service plan is important, get at least a two year plan, if you can afford it, a four year is probably worth it.

Trust me, you won’t be sorry when you and your friends are watching the big game in stunning high definition this year! Happy Shopping!

I definately love hdtv’s, I work at a video store with alot of hdtv’s and Im learning alot about these tv’s. My favorite are plasmas, because of high contrast ratio and the color depth is better in my opinion. I want one for SuperBowl!

Reading your post lets me know that I made a good move starting an niche ecommerce store for lcd tv’s. I was kinda concerned when it looked like the only stores on teh net were the “big boys” but I gues where there is a will there is a way. I’m like your better ahlf and truly enjoy watching the games in high def.

I have owned Sony televisions exclusively for the past 30 years. I was in the market for a new TV to replace my older Sony 50″ Grand WEGA LCD projection set. I always keep up with new technologies in consumer electronics and knew that LED backlighting was the way to go. One day, I visited Best Buy to see the new Sony models. I was particularly interested in the Sony Bravia XBR8 LED TV. It has an awesome display, but I couldn’t bring myself to part with $5K for a TV. The price factor was a big disappointment. I knew Samsung made LED models so I decided to check them out too. I was immediately floored. They looked far better than Sony’s more expensive LED model and for $2K less. But, was I really willing to purchase something other than a Sony TV? I would have to be convinced. I did a lot of research on these Samsung sets. I demoed them in several stores and read as many reviews as possible. IMO, the Samsung LED TVs are by far the best technology currently available. Their display must be seen to be believed. Most impressive of all, is the fact that Samsung accomplished this in a set that is only 1.2″ thick.
